November 10th, 2007.........All hell is breaking loose in WIMAX

Here we are, three days after Android is announced, and the wireless technology that was supposedly going to host it, WIMAX, is suddenly on the ropes, or at least searching for new direction. The two largest holders of WIMAX radio spectrum, Sprint and Clearwire have dissolved their joint venture that was thought to be essential for bringing mobile WIMAX to the point of reality in 2008. So now what? If WIMAX is compelling, then the combination of Sprint & Clearwire is compelling too. Will they get back together? Will Sprint spin off a WIMAX division, or sell its spectrum?... to Google or the Android partners perhaps? Are investors unwilling to sink megabucks into WIMAX development given the looming success of iPhone which doesn't appear to need it? Is there another technology that would crush them all potentially , such as XG Technology's unproven XMAX, an upstart contender in the 900 mhz band? Stay tuned.
